Church of St. Catherine of Sinai in Heraklion was once the preserve of the nuns of the monastery of St. Catherine on
Mount Sinai, in the mid 16 th century, organized in Kandy Greek Orthodox school. During the invasion of the Turks turned the church into a mosque. Today the church is a historical museum that holds many artifacts, including icons and frescoes of Michael Damaskinos, bright representative of the Cretan School of El Greco's time.
