The ruins of Memphis.

The ruins of Memphis are not far to the north of Cairo.  Memphis is the founder of Menes - an ancient ruler who united Upper and Lower Egypt.  Memphis was founded about 3100 BC  as fortifications and only later became the capital city.  But still do not know why he was in fact abandoned.  Scattered here and there, the picturesque ruins - all that remained of the once magnificent city.
